Annual Report for 2004
January 1, 2005
Dear Brother Firemen,
During 2004, our Northern New York Volunteer Fireman's
Association has seen a decrease in individual memberships, largely
due to the cleaning up of the database. However, new departments
have been added as well as some who have re-joined their dues.
Total department membership amounts to 2,736 individuals,
down 992 from the previous year. This is due to the fact that
a department who did not pay their dues paid had their numbers
removed which reflect the decrease. It is hoped that during the
coming year more individuals will join our organization to help
make us a stronger voice in the field of the fire service.
The yearbook is continuing and again we will be
using the firm of Caring People Enterprises to do our solicitation
on a professional basis. As you know, the money received from
the solicitations is used to give out scholarships for the children
of our NNY firemen and for our fire prevention programs. Solicitors
will once again contact individuals in your community. This scholarship
committee has been working hard and has made several changes to
the criteria in applying for a scholarship.
Our President has been very busy this year representing
us at many functions. He meets with many committees and area organizations
and FASNY on a regular basis. President Steffen is very active
and has many goals for our Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's
Association. Please be sure to share any ideas or concerns with
him or any other officer of Northern.
Our Legislative Committee, under the direction
of Tom Arsenault has been very active in 2004 with numerous bills
that affect the volunteer firefighter. This committee keeps our
members informed of upcoming legislation as it becomes available.
In closing, let me urge you and your department
to attend our meetings and express your thoughts and opinions
as they affect the volunteer firemen of Northern New York. Our
goal is a better fire service and only through your participation
can we make it safer and stronger for all of us.
Firematically,
Dennis E. Eickhoff
Secretary
