Information on Applying for Scholarships

Our Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association is continuing a Scholarship Program open to firefighters, benevolent members, their spouses, children and grandchildren. The scholarships will be awarded to those in the above categories that have a relationship to a Northern New York member.

Applications are due by April 1.

If you need additional applications, please feel free to make as many copies of the application form as necessary or contact Dennis Eickhoff, Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association Secretary, State Hwy. 56, Colton, NY, 13625, or phone him at (315) 262-2800.

Announcements of scholarship winners will be made at the Northern New York Convention Business Session in June. If you are a previous Scholarship winner and have submitted a copy of your last semester transcript with your application you will receive your check at the Convention. If you are a first year student, a transcript of the fall semester must be sent to the chairman of the Scholarship Committee, Thomas Arsenault by February 15. Your check will be sent after receipt and review of that transcript.

The Applicant's associated fire department's membership in the Northern New York Firemen's Association must be paid by April 30. Failure of Fire Department to be a current member will disallow the application.

Applicants must provide:

  1. A 250-300 word essay stating why they want this scholarship and what their final career goal is (be specific).
    Provide essay on seperate sheet of paper;
  2. A list of all your Community Service activities;
  3. A list of all your School activities;
  4. A Letter from the Fire Chief or President indicating that you or your associated member is a member in good standing and;
  5. A Letter of Recommendation from a Teacher.

Failure to submit any of the above required items will disallow the application. Scholarships are renewable up to four years of Collage.

All applications must be submitted in typewritten form or computer generated. No handwritten applications will be considered. It is your responsibility to meet all the criteria for this application as it is a reflection on you. The committee looks forward to receiving these applications and the selection of the best qualified candidates. We thank you for participating in our scholarship program.

Applicants must be working towards a career in Fire, EMS, Public Safety or Community Services.
